Great Advice For the New Year

One of the Best Articles on Starting the New Year. Eliot Cobb

Seven Realistic Ways to Achieve Your New Year's Goals

Have you ever completed every goal compiled on your New Year's resolution list? Learn to set realistic goals and know your self-worth- what a better way to start the New Year.

The next time you find yourself measuring your success by reviewing a balance sheet or looking at the dollar signs on your bank statement, consider the following statement, Your self-worth is more important than your net worth. You'll be much more motivated in the coming year if you understand your self-worth, which is so much more valuable than just your net worth. One is simply a number; the other is what opens the door to opportunities and can lead to amazing success. Stay self-motivated by knowing your self-worth.

There are seven realistic ways to achieve your New Years goals that will contribute to your self-worth and your potential for success in life:

1. Practice conditioning your mind with positive thoughts. Its tempting to get discouraged during times of stress, but you can train yourself to look at things positively. With practice, you can learn to look at even the worst situations as opportunities. Become aware of your negative thoughts as they happen, and replace them with a more positive spin you'll find that it soon becomes second nature.

2. Exercise to stay energized. Your physical, mental, and emotional health are dependent upon one another. A bit of exercise each day will improve your energy levels and your mental clarity both vital to staying motivated.

3. Avoid negative people. True, no matter what we do, there will be negative people who enter our lives every now and then. But that doesn't mean we need to surround ourselves with them! Negativity is contagious. Have you ever noticed how being in a room with happy people brings a smile to your face? Negative people can bring you down in the same way and sap your energy. Minimize your time with them, and remind yourself that their bad attitudes don't necessarily have to be yours.

4. Surround yourself with motivated, goal-oriented people. Make sure your team is a positive one and focus your time and energy on people who bring a motivated, animated influence to your environment. Creativity and optimism are just as contagious as negativity they feed off of each other. The encouragement and support you'll get from like-minded, goal-oriented people will spur you on to greater achievements.

5. Be flexible. There is always more to learn and there will often be changes in circumstances that need to be faced head-on. If you can remain flexible, you'll be able to adapt to unexpected changes and turn them into opportunities. Keeping your mind open to alternative thoughts, perspectives, and ideas will open doors and reduce your own stress. Considering as many opportunities and new ideas as possible is the kind of flexibility that will improve your self-worth by leading you down more paths that can lead to success.

6. Stretch yourself past your limits. Don't overexert or overextend yourself that will only drain your energy. Instead, stretch yourself. Stretching yourself means trying as hard as you can and then giving a little bit more. This way, you wont ever hold yourself back and you'll know that you can be very proud of every accomplishment because you gave your all.

7. Stop trying to be perfect. Nobody is perfect, so stop trying so hard. Begin the New Year by allowing yourself the luxury of imperfection. Giving up on achieving perfection gives you permission to focus on a much more realistic and admirable goal reaching your own personal best and being comfortable and happy in your own skin. Perfection is the worst enemy of success. Consider completion to be your goal - not perfection. This way you can let go and move on to the next project without festering about endlessly trying to put the final touches on each project you finish.

The New Year is a wonderful chance to achieve success with these seven simple steps. Each one will improve your outlook on life and help you deal with the many ups and downs of life. Envision the life you intend to live by taking the right approach to staying self-motivated and you'll have a stellar and successful New Year!

It's a New Year - Review your Employees

This is another in a series of articles on Running a Profitable Company from Eliot Cobb

At the beginning of each year, take a good look at all of your employees. Who is really necessary for running your business? Maybe you have a few people that don't add value. If so, you need to deal with those employees as if you are Re-Hiring them. By this I mean, pretend that you have just hired them. Go over expectations with them. Put them on a probation program…….give them 30 to 90 days and review their progress along the way. Look for ways to praise them if they do something commendable. People generally respond to praise rather than criticism. Maybe they just need some additional training, or perhaps some mentoring. Try to inspire them in some way. Every person wants to excel in some manner. Get to know that person, and figure out what will inspire the problem employee to perform better.

IMPORTANT: Do something! Reviewing employees, but NOT taking action, where needed -- is just a waste of time!!

If it is clear that the employee can not satisfy the requirements of the job, make a clear break with the past. Either offer them a job that they can do effectively, or, put them on a path towards termination. A CEO that is serious about becoming profitable will make the hard choices when it comes to people.

If Uncle Joe, in the corner office, has not contributed in many years, you need to eliminate his position. Keeping a family member on when they aren’t doing the job, costs the company valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. It also sends a bad message to the employees…….that being “I favor certain people – non-family employees have to work hard, but a family member doesn’t”. Everyone in a company wants to see fairness applied in all situations.

Summary: At the beggining of the year, take a look at your employees and deal with those that need to perform better. Employees that don't perform will drag down your profits. Make the hard choices. Deal with employee issues NOW, not six months from now!

Mobile widgets - the bluetooth chat is taken to another level

By: CLINT JHONSON

You can now interact with your friends by having a bluetooth mobile phone and some mobile widgets installed. Most companies in this domain provide all that you need in order to find people and chat with your friends, business partners etc. Who would not want to stay on top of things all the time and know what their friends are up to? It would be great to communicate with them and stay in touch just as if they were right next to you. With mobile widgets you can do all that - and more: you can get traffic alerts, news, blogs, gossip, restaurant reviews, weather reports and loads of other stuff that you would normally get through a web service, without having to wade through hundreds of websites. Bluetooth chat is also possible between two or more people that have a mobile phone which supports bluetooth and mobile widgets.

Bluetooth chat is a direct text chat between two or more users, where every one of them utilizes a bluetooth device and names it (optional). This way of communicating is generally used in a public and populated space like a pub, a street, a plaza and so on. To initiate this chat, one goes to the connectivity menu on his/her device and turns on the bluetooth port. Next, one should try to discover new bluetooth devices in order to find and add some bluetooth co-chatters. Now that the list is made, one can create a note and send it via bluetooth to the other devices/users. Even if you do not have a mobile widget on your phone, people who have this feature on theirs can still detect you; they can declare your cell phone as a friend and receive notifications each time you are around or even invite you to use the same company as they do. Because friend alerts are based on the bluetooth feature of your friend’s cell phone, they will work anytime your friend’s bluetooth is switched on. Mobile widgets only help you communicate easier and offer you many new opportunities.

Generally speaking, a widget is a small application, a little bit of code, that does one simple thing but does it well. In order to be able to run a widget, you need a “Widget Engine”, which is the framework needed to run these micro applications. This approach fits particularly well on mobile world, where space on screen is limited, and where it is not easy to switch between applications. A widget engine is so hassle free that there is no need for you to click from site to site, refresh, or browse for what you want - the information is updated to your cell phone automatically. Each bluetooth chat implies finding out the names of the people with whom you chat. This is how it is done: each bluetooth cell phone has a name, which is visible by other devices. Many people change the default name (usually the cell phone brand or model) into a friendlier one. If you play with the scan feature, you will meet lots of new people and for some of them you will already know their names. Which means that these mobile widgets are quite some ice breakers!

The second important thing about a mobile widget is that it can be combined with other widgets. These applications were previously called plug-ins, components, extensions, or gadgets, but the real innovation is that now it is up to the users: they can combine these mobile widgets to create their own unique application. For example, the user can choose to have CNN News, Paris weather etcetera. Some companies come up with technologies that allow complex widgets for communities; they also facilitate user created applications – you can create an application for your business or one for your blog.

You can find companies on the Internet which offer you a series of advantages, like reading your favorite blogs on your mobile phone, checking your horoscope daily, meeting new people, finding the latest sport results, being alerted when a friend is near you etc. The most important feature is that by having a mobile software provider, you can talk via bluetooth with all the people that surround you. Thanks to this bluetooth chat technology and the mobile widgets, you can declare as a friend a person who does not have both features yet. Those services are very affordable, taking into consideration that they are totally free; you can use them as much as you want, create as much as you want, and share with others to the point that you can't share anymore. As the mobile phone industry expands every year, the mobile widgets are welcome to make our lives easier and make the connections between people stronger. People get connected also through bluetooth chat which, together with these phone widgets, improves the mobile phone technology.

Pimpin For Rep. Paul

That, of course, is Ron Paul, the Libertarian GOP hopeful (and prohibitive underdog), who has procured the ass-istance of perhaps the most famous legal brothel in the world -- Vegas' BunnyRanch -- and its proprietor, Dennis Hof. In fact, TMZ has obtained an appeal from Hof to American voters, which Hof hopes will, as he puts it, "lubricate Ron Paul's path to the White House."

Unfortunately, Paul isn't on board with the program, because when we called his campaign manager to ask about the pimp support, he didn't sound too happy about it.

Mark Elam says that Congressman Paul "didn't solicit" Hof and his hoes -- certainly not their business, nor their political support. He tells us that, to his knowledge, Hof and Rep. Paul haven't met, nor does Paul sanction any form of prostitution.

As the libertarian-leaning candidate, Paul has been vocal in his support of states' rights, which, naturally, are amenable to the BunnyRanch and its business. Still, Paul is also strongly pro-life.
