Great Advice For the New Year
Seven Realistic Ways to Achieve Your New Year's Goals
Have you ever completed every goal compiled on your New Year's resolution list? Learn to set realistic goals and know your self-worth- what a better way to start the New Year.
The next time you find yourself measuring your success by reviewing a balance sheet or looking at the dollar signs on your bank statement, consider the following statement, Your self-worth is more important than your net worth. You'll be much more motivated in the coming year if you understand your self-worth, which is so much more valuable than just your net worth. One is simply a number; the other is what opens the door to opportunities and can lead to amazing success. Stay self-motivated by knowing your self-worth.
There are seven realistic ways to achieve your New Years goals that will contribute to your self-worth and your potential for success in life:
1. Practice conditioning your mind with positive thoughts. Its tempting to get discouraged during times of stress, but you can train yourself to look at things positively. With practice, you can learn to look at even the worst situations as opportunities. Become aware of your negative thoughts as they happen, and replace them with a more positive spin you'll find that it soon becomes second nature.
2. Exercise to stay energized. Your physical, mental, and emotional health are dependent upon one another. A bit of exercise each day will improve your energy levels and your mental clarity both vital to staying motivated.
3. Avoid negative people. True, no matter what we do, there will be negative people who enter our lives every now and then. But that doesn't mean we need to surround ourselves with them! Negativity is contagious. Have you ever noticed how being in a room with happy people brings a smile to your face? Negative people can bring you down in the same way and sap your energy. Minimize your time with them, and remind yourself that their bad attitudes don't necessarily have to be yours.
4. Surround yourself with motivated, goal-oriented people. Make sure your team is a positive one and focus your time and energy on people who bring a motivated, animated influence to your environment. Creativity and optimism are just as contagious as negativity they feed off of each other. The encouragement and support you'll get from like-minded, goal-oriented people will spur you on to greater achievements.
5. Be flexible. There is always more to learn and there will often be changes in circumstances that need to be faced head-on. If you can remain flexible, you'll be able to adapt to unexpected changes and turn them into opportunities. Keeping your mind open to alternative thoughts, perspectives, and ideas will open doors and reduce your own stress. Considering as many opportunities and new ideas as possible is the kind of flexibility that will improve your self-worth by leading you down more paths that can lead to success.
6. Stretch yourself past your limits. Don't overexert or overextend yourself that will only drain your energy. Instead, stretch yourself. Stretching yourself means trying as hard as you can and then giving a little bit more. This way, you wont ever hold yourself back and you'll know that you can be very proud of every accomplishment because you gave your all.
7. Stop trying to be perfect. Nobody is perfect, so stop trying so hard. Begin the New Year by allowing yourself the luxury of imperfection. Giving up on achieving perfection gives you permission to focus on a much more realistic and admirable goal reaching your own personal best and being comfortable and happy in your own skin. Perfection is the worst enemy of success. Consider completion to be your goal - not perfection. This way you can let go and move on to the next project without festering about endlessly trying to put the final touches on each project you finish.
The New Year is a wonderful chance to achieve success with these seven simple steps. Each one will improve your outlook on life and help you deal with the many ups and downs of life. Envision the life you intend to live by taking the right approach to staying self-motivated and you'll have a stellar and successful New Year!

While the company has offices in Richmond, Virginia and Cambridge, UK, it is based in Greenwood Village, Colorado. The primary purpose of eBags.com is to be an online retailer of handbags, backpacks, business cases, urban bags, luggage, and travel accessories. eBags.com represents more than 350 brands. eBags, Inc. also owns and operates 6pm.com, formerly Shoedini.com, a high-end, fashion-forward electronic commerce shoe and bag site launched in November 2005. 6pm.com sells more than 200 brands of footwear and bags. In addition, eBags Inc. operates e-commerce websites for such partners as Tumi.com and CaseLogic.com.
Five people founded eBags in the late spring of 1998. Four of them worked for Samsonite prior to starting eBags. Collectively, they—Jon Nordmark, Peter Cobb, Frank Steed and Andy Youngs—worked more than 50 years at Samsonite, which was headquartered in Denver from 1910 through 1997. Eliot Cobb worked as VP of Finance at The Wherehouse, a 500 store music retailer.
For Samsonite, Jon Nordmark lead development of luggage, duffel and backpack products while managing about 20 different distribution channels in North America. In 1997-8, he performed similar duties for Samsonite South America. Nordmark helped build hardside and softside products in Asia, Europe and the U.S.
During his six years at Samsonite, Peter Cobb lead USA marketing for both Samsonite and American Tourister. This included marketing communications activities—often created in partnership with Chicago-based ad agency Leo Burnett—and new product development. Before that, Cobb developed golf bags for a Ben Hogan licensing company.
Frank Steed was president of both Samsonite and American Tourister, USA. He served as Chairman of eBags, Inc. until the summer of 2001. The final founder to join eBags from Samsonite was Andy Youngs. At Samsonite he served in both marketing and sales capacities.
Nordmark and Peter Cobb continue to work for eBags. Steed and Youngs left eBags during the downturn of the dot coms in the summer of 2001. Steed became president of a travel accessories company based in New York. Youngs joined Case Logic—a company that produces storage cases like PDA cases, iPod cases and CD cases—as their Vice President of Marketing.

It's a New Year - Review your Employees
At the beginning of each year, take a good look at all of your employees. Who is really necessary for running your business? Maybe you have a few people that don't add value. If so, you need to deal with those employees as if you are Re-Hiring them. By this I mean, pretend that you have just hired them. Go over expectations with them. Put them on a probation program…….give them 30 to 90 days and review their progress along the way. Look for ways to praise them if they do something commendable. People generally respond to praise rather than criticism. Maybe they just need some additional training, or perhaps some mentoring. Try to inspire them in some way. Every person wants to excel in some manner. Get to know that person, and figure out what will inspire the problem employee to perform better.
IMPORTANT: Do something! Reviewing employees, but NOT taking action, where needed -- is just a waste of time!!
If it is clear that the employee can not satisfy the requirements of the job, make a clear break with the past. Either offer them a job that they can do effectively, or, put them on a path towards termination. A CEO that is serious about becoming profitable will make the hard choices when it comes to people.
If Uncle Joe, in the corner office, has not contributed in many years, you need to eliminate his position. Keeping a family member on when they aren’t doing the job, costs the company valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. It also sends a bad message to the employees…….that being “I favor certain people – non-family employees have to work hard, but a family member doesn’t”. Everyone in a company wants to see fairness applied in all situations.
Summary: At the beggining of the year, take a look at your employees and deal with those that need to perform better. Employees that don't perform will drag down your profits. Make the hard choices. Deal with employee issues NOW, not six months from now!

Mobile widgets - the bluetooth chat is taken to another level
By: CLINT JHONSON
Bluetooth chat is a direct text chat between two or more users, where every one of them utilizes a bluetooth device and names it (optional). This way of communicating is generally used in a public and populated space like a pub, a street, a plaza and so on. To initiate this chat, one goes to the connectivity menu on his/her device and turns on the bluetooth port. Next, one should try to discover new bluetooth devices in order to find and add some bluetooth co-chatters. Now that the list is made, one can create a note and send it via bluetooth to the other devices/users. Even if you do not have a mobile widget on your phone, people who have this feature on theirs can still detect you; they can declare your cell phone as a friend and receive notifications each time you are around or even invite you to use the same company as they do. Because friend alerts are based on the bluetooth feature of your friend’s cell phone, they will work anytime your friend’s bluetooth is switched on. Mobile widgets only help you communicate easier and offer you many new opportunities.
Generally speaking, a widget is a small application, a little bit of code, that does one simple thing but does it well. In order to be able to run a widget, you need a “Widget Engineâ€, which is the framework needed to run these micro applications. This approach fits particularly well on mobile world, where space on screen is limited, and where it is not easy to switch between applications. A widget engine is so hassle free that there is no need for you to click from site to site, refresh, or browse for what you want - the information is updated to your cell phone automatically. Each bluetooth chat implies finding out the names of the people with whom you chat. This is how it is done: each bluetooth cell phone has a name, which is visible by other devices. Many people change the default name (usually the cell phone brand or model) into a friendlier one. If you play with the scan feature, you will meet lots of new people and for some of them you will already know their names. Which means that these mobile widgets are quite some ice breakers!
The second important thing about a mobile widget is that it can be combined with other widgets. These applications were previously called plug-ins, components, extensions, or gadgets, but the real innovation is that now it is up to the users: they can combine these mobile widgets to create their own unique application. For example, the user can choose to have CNN News, Paris weather etcetera. Some companies come up with technologies that allow complex widgets for communities; they also facilitate user created applications – you can create an application for your business or one for your blog.
You can find companies on the Internet which offer you a series of advantages, like reading your favorite blogs on your mobile phone, checking your horoscope daily, meeting new people, finding the latest sport results, being alerted when a friend is near you etc. The most important feature is that by having a mobile software provider, you can talk via bluetooth with all the people that surround you. Thanks to this bluetooth chat technology and the mobile widgets, you can declare as a friend a person who does not have both features yet. Those services are very affordable, taking into consideration that they are totally free; you can use them as much as you want, create as much as you want, and share with others to the point that you can't share anymore. As the mobile phone industry expands every year, the mobile widgets are welcome to make our lives easier and make the connections between people stronger. People get connected also through bluetooth chat which, together with these phone widgets, improves the mobile phone technology.

Pimpin For Rep. Paul
That, of course, is Ron Paul, the Libertarian GOP hopeful (and prohibitive underdog), who has procured the ass-istance of perhaps the most famous legal brothel in the world -- Vegas' BunnyRanch -- and its proprietor, Dennis Hof. In fact, TMZ has obtained an appeal from Hof to American voters, which Hof hopes will, as he puts it, "lubricate Ron Paul's path to the White House."Unfortunately, Paul isn't on board with the program, because when we called his campaign manager to ask about the pimp support, he didn't sound too happy about it.
Mark Elam says that Congressman Paul "didn't solicit" Hof and his hoes -- certainly not their business, nor their political support. He tells us that, to his knowledge, Hof and Rep. Paul haven't met, nor does Paul sanction any form of prostitution.
As the libertarian-leaning candidate, Paul has been vocal in his support of states' rights, which, naturally, are amenable to the BunnyRanch and its business. Still, Paul is also strongly pro-life.

Where the Right Went Wrong
From Pat Buchanan: how neocons are leading conservatives -- and America -- to disaster............And what we must do now to save our country and our cause
Where the Right Went Wrong
by Pat Buchanan
Pat Buchanan's new Where the Right Went Wrong: How Neoconservatives Subverted the Reagan Revolution and Hijacked the Bush Presidency explores the pressing truth that few others dare to admit: conservatives have lost their way. The pundit and sometime presidential candidate explains how a Republican-controlled capital city whose leaders daily profess their conservatism could preside over the largest fiscal and trade deficits in our history -- and have us mired in a Wilsonian imperial war to force democracy upon an Arab Middle East that has never known it. This book is about a cabal that betrayed conservatism because, from the very beginning, they never believed in it. As Buchanan shows here, they had another agenda all along.
Buchanan courageously argues here that the invasion of Iraq and the neocon-inspired mission to impose democracy upon it could be a textbook example of the imperial overstretch that brought down so many empires of the past -- and could bring America down in the near future. He points out that all the blunders committed by Britain's ruling class during the swift fall of the British empire have been replicated by our neocon elites: from the arrogance of power, to the alienation of allies, to the waging of wars in regions where no vital U.S. interests are at risk.
Meanwhile, Buchanan discusses other signs of grave danger: soaring budget deficits, the steady loss of manufacturing jobs, the unstopped flood of illegal immigration, the rapid deterioration of American education, and more. He examines the implications of the rapidly changing religious, ethnic and racial composition of the country in this age when race, religion, and ethnicity are tearing countries apart.
What is the Republican Party doing about all this? Buchanan dares to state the truth: the traditional conservative party is abandoning its core principles in search of votes, signing off on imperialistic misadventures and economic treason, and helping to impose a social, moral, and cultural revolution upon our country.
Buchanan doesn't just summarize the deep trouble that America is in. He recalls Barry Goldwater's dictum that "the ancient and tested truths that guided our republic through its early days will do equally well for us." In a sweeping, insightful prescription for our ills, he sets out the hard choices we must make in order to restore those ancient and tested truths, and bring back sound government in our foreign and domestic policies. He even details how we must fight back and win the culture wars that have sapped so much of our nation's resolve.
Pat Buchanan tells the truths that few others have the courage to state
How the GOP has become not the party of Reagan, but of Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and LBJ
Influential pseudo-conservatives who argued at the end of the Cold War for nothing less than the surrender of American sovereignty -- and aggressive wars to "wage democracy" all over the world
Wolfowitz, Perle, and other key neocons: how they captured the President
The revolutionary "neo-Jacobin" streak in neoconservatism that cannot be reconciled with any concept of true conservatism
The Muslim world: five sobering real reasons why they hate us
The ambiguous American position on Taiwan: how it has created the real possibility of war between the U.S. and China -- and seven elements of a new, realistic American policy toward China
Why America's political independence, as Alexander Hamilton insisted, cannot survive without economic independence -- which we are wantonly squandering
How George W. Bush has bloated the deficit with social programs that out-liberal the most committed liberals
Judicial supremacy: how today's activist judiciary came into being - and how it must be stopped
How the Bush threat of war upon nations that had not attacked us is utterly unprecedented in American history -- and puts us all at risk
Why the worldwide War on Terror as George W. Bush has framed it will continue not only through his presidency, but for the rest of our lives
How Bush has unnecessarily thrown down the gauntlet to every rival and would-be world power, and issued a challenge to lesser powers to unite against us
The Islamic world: how President Bush has placed us on a course for endless wars with Muslims who are repelled by the social, cultural, and moral decadence they see in America and the West
How the Bush Doctrine contradicts history and common sense, and will bleed, bankrupt and isolate this republic

Dixon, Oregon rolling through top competition
By Pat Forde
ESPN.com
(Archive)
Updated: November 4, 2007
EUGENE, Ore. -- For a guy who is nonstop excitement with the football, Dennis Dixon sure can flip the dull switch when his Oregon Ducks reach the end zone.
Nobody goes from electric to stoic like Dixon. He threw four touchdown passes against oh-ver-ra-ted Arizona State on Saturday in the Ducks' 35-23 victory. After the first three, he reacted to the joyous occasions like a guy straggling into an 8 a.m. econ class.
No fist pumps or chest bumps. No race downfield to jump on the receiver. No pointing to the sky, the stands or the opposition. All Dixon did was unbutton his chin strap and walk -- not run -- off the field.
"That's just the focus he has, and that's just the person he is," said explosive Ducks running back Jonathan Stewart. "A lot of people like to celebrate like TO. He's been there before."
Yes, he has. Eight times on the ground this year, and now 20 times through the air. Dix knows six.
If you could flag Dixon for anything after a touchdown, it would be depressive celebration. If he gives up his fledgling pro baseball career and makes the NFL, he'd be voted least likely to hide a cell phone in the goalpost padding, propose to a cheerleader or pull a Sharpie out of his sock.
"I just had this motto before the season," Dixon said. "I talked to my high school coach, and he told me never get too up and never get too down. If you see me on the sidelines, I'm not really a joker, I'm not trying to make anybody laugh. I'm just focused."
Dennis Dixon
Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images
Dennis Dixon's speed, accuracy and maturation are the reasons Oregon is tough to beat.
On the fourth and final TD throw Saturday -- a gorgeous 19-yard toss to Drew Davis, who came into the game with one catch all season -- Dixon almost blew his cool. He backpedaled three or four steps before gearing down to his customary stroll.
"I was actually happy for [Davis], not for me," Spock -- I mean Dixon -- explained.
The Vulcan quarterback is leaving all the tumult and shouting to Duck Nation, which is giddily picking up the emotional slack. Fans are so excited about Oregon's 8-1 start and prominent position in the national title race that a sizable number of the record 59,379 people in Autzen Stadium rushed the field Saturday -- even though the Ducks were favored by a touchdown.
The fans are so dialed in that they reacted loudly to announced scores that affected Oregon's standing in the championship chase. They savvily cheered Michigan's comeback victory over Michigan State, knowing their win in Ann Arbor counts more with the computers if the Wolverines keep winning. They groaned when third-ranked LSU came back to beat Alabama.
"You can't help but watch [other scores]," offensive guard Josh Tschirgi said. "As long as you're not counting on other people to do your work for you, it's OK. If we don't win all three [remaining games], nothing else matters. We'll be going to the Holiday Bowl or something like that."
As of right now, the worst bowl Oregon will play in is the Rose Bowl -- which ain't bad. The best could be the big one: the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans.
And the biggest thing that could prevent the Ducks from getting there could be injuries.
The only time Dixon showed any emotion against the Sun Devils was as he rolled on the Autzen turf in pain. Arizona State cornerback Omar Bolden ended a Dixon run with a crisp hit to his legs, and the quarterback grabbed his left knee and writhed on the fake grass. An audible spasm of panic shot through the crowd.
The sight of wounded Ducks has become depressingly commonplace this season. They've been besieged by major leg injuries, from receivers Cameron Colvin and Brian Paysinger to running back Jeremiah Johnson to the latest casualty, middle linebacker John Bacon (torn ACL Saturday).
"Our depth now has hit the bottom," coach Mike Bellotti said.
But when Dixon went down, he threatened to take the season with him.
Jonathan Stewart
Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images
Bruising back Jonathan Stewart provides a counterpunch to Dennis Dixon.
"I was like, 'Oh, no, how did this happen?'" Dixon said, but then he jumped up and jog-limped to the sideline to show the fans he was OK.
Just to be careful, Bellotti left Dixon out the rest of the game. With the Ducks up 35-16 at that point, there was no reason to risk anything -- and now Dixon will have 12 days to rest the strained knee before Oregon plays Arizona.
"Dennis is going to be fine," Bellotti said.
He has been better than fine all season. He has been Heisman-esque, thanks to an offseason upgrade in maturity.
"He's a totally different guy in the huddle," Tschirgi said. "Last year, he wasn't a leader in the huddle. This year, it's understood that Dennis Dixon is the leader.
"It's confidence, pure and simple. Dennis' confidence is so high right now. We all trust that he's going to do everything it takes to win."
The wins have piled up. The stats have piled up, too, comparable with the best quarterbacks out there. And if you're looking for the one quality that can separate him from the pack, it's this: No one in America performs more ball-on-a-string sleight of hand than Dixon.
"Almost a magician," is how Oregon offensive coordinator Chip Kelly described Dixon and his ball fakes.
No wonder one of the quarterback's relatives was wearing a jersey that said Tricky Dixon on the back.
Dixon's huge hands -- I had him hold his right paw up to my left; mine was dwarfed -- allow him to pump fake extravagantly without losing his grip on the ball. Twice Saturday, he had the Sun Devils rushing in the direction of a faked pass, only to pull the ball back and fire it the other direction.
"Having that extension, showing that to the defense, creates a whole lot of havoc," Dixon said.
Oregon has created havoc all season in Kelly's go-go spread attack. Tempo, trickery and creative play calling make the Ducks dangerous, and they wasted no time bewildering Arizona State's top-20 defense.
It took Oregon four plays to get its first touchdown. Eleven more plays to score again. Then seven more to make it 21 points on the board. The game was less than 15½ minutes old before Dixon had thrown three TDs.
"They got tricked," Stewart said.

The Greenwood Village-based Web retailer went live online March 1 - www.ebags.com - selling luggage, bags and travel-related merchandise. The company has $5 million in angel investment commitments - contributions from individual investors - and has venture capital agreements in the works. Now, eBags is hiring.
``We have 16 employees and 10 open positions,'' said Eliot Cobb, chief financial officer at eBags. ``We would like to fill these within the next 30 days.''

All the Web-related positions require substantial experience in related fields, and a degree is preferred.
``They have to be Internet savvy,'' Cobb said. ``And some will definitely have to be computer people, our Web designer, Web application developer.'' Pay ranges from $28,000 to $60,000 a year. A bachelor's degree is preferred for all positions, but not mandatory. Applicants should have three to five years of experience in a related field.
